My name is Spencer Young, a BC raised mountain bike athlete with 10 years of racing and riding experience, and the newest employee at Full On Lighting. Julian Moutinho also grew up in BC where he developed his competitive racing and riding skillset. Julian and I have years of history riding together, from weekend laps to competitive racing, we would always go for a lap if we bumped into each other. We also spent two seasons as teammates on the Dunbar Cycles Race Team, competing together in the BC Cups and Canada Cups. Julian raced a few years below me in those seasons, but it was always entertaining to watch the younger racers shred. I was excited for this ride with Julian because I knew he would put on a show and give the Full On Lighting lights a true test. I was curious to see if what I was promoting was legit, and with my history of riding, I have developed a highly critical eye for gear.

The Challenge
Julian and I set out to Mount Prevost with the Full On Lighting team to determine whether we could night ride some of the highest-quality downhill trails in Canada with the same intensity as during the daytime. We chose the Full On Lighting MB6 for this mission: a 6000+ lumen light designed to provide a daylight-level biking experience.
Why Mount Prevost?
Mount Prevost, located in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island, BC, is a legendary training and proving ground with a rich history in downhill biking. What better place to test the limits of the MB6? We were unsure if the MB6 could keep up with the sheer size and speed of Mount Prevost’s features, but we quickly discovered a whole new world of mountain biking possibilities.

First Impressions
Julian and I did a few laps in the daylight to warm up, get some videos, and make a plan for our night laps. I have attempted night riding Mount Prevost in the past with other lights, but haven’t been overly satisfied with the setups I used. Our first lap with the MB6 had us rushing back to the shuttle truck for another lap.
Main Takeaways
After the first section of Memphis, a black tech trail at Mount Prevost known for its high speed corners and jumps, we realized that holding back was not necessary. The brightness of the MB6 was outstanding, and the ultra wide beam lights up the forest and makes you feel like you are riding in a stadium.
Here’s where the MB6 really stood out:
1. The brightness- 6000 lumens is perfect for establishing a daylight level brightness. Not too bright, and definitely not too dim! The colour of the beam feels comfortable and isn’t straining or un-natural.
2.The uniformity- The MB6’s optics successfully disperse light to 180 degrees. We noticed this when looking through corners and touching down into landings. Eliminating the hotspot that most lights have allows you to see your favourite trails in a similar way to daylight.
3. Battery life- At the end of our ride our lights still had plenty of charge. We were hesitant about riding with a battery pack at first, but we quickly realized this is an easy tradeoff. In “Active Light Control” mode, we could leave the light on the entire ride while the light managed its output. This let us focus fully on riding rather than battery life, knowing the light was automatically optimizing its output.
