There’s a running joke in the startup world that it takes years of grinding in the dark to become an overnight success. For the team here at Full On Lighting, that couldn't be more literal.
We’ve spent the last three years working in the dark, testing optics on wet Vancouver Island trails, refining battery design, and engineering the MB6 to be the most capable personal lighting system on the market. This month, we were honored to have that hard work recognized by Douglas Magazine as one of their "10 to Watch" winners for 2026.
As the article mentions, the origin of Full On Lighting started with a pretty simple realization between colleagues: "Man, bike lights suck." Having already spent years building commercial outdoor solar lights, we knew the technology existed to do better. We didn't want the standard high-intensity spotlight that created a tunnel-vision effect. We wanted to build a single, intelligent light that fills your entire field of view and enables riders to hit the trails with confidence.
As Sean Bourquin noted in the Douglas feature: "I thought, 'Oh, this has got to be on your head.' Your body's a great shock absorber. You're up higher, so it projects better, and it's where you're looking. What we create for people is unmatched vision, which leads to riding faster, feeling safer and having more fun"
Getting a hardware company off the ground right here in our Langford offices has been a massive undertaking. There have been many late nights, multiple prototype revisions, and moments where we wondered if doing the hard design work was really worth it.
This recognition from Douglas is an amazing milestone, and the real reward has been seeing the traction out on the trails over the last year.
We are seeing the MB6 become the go-to plug-and-play upgrade for the new wave of high-performance Avinox powered e-bikes. We are watching powersports and enduro dirt bike riders mount the MB6 to their helmets so they can finally look through corners in the dark. From aggressive gravel to search and rescue teams, our approach is fundamentally changing how people ride at night.
Thank You. To everyone who supported our initial Kickstarter campaign, to the local bike shops who took a chance on putting us on their shelves, and to the riders who trust us when the sun goes down: Thank you. We are proud to design and build our lights right here in Canada, and we couldn't have reached this milestone without the support of the local riding community. We have some exciting new products coming this fall to help even more riders, but for today, we’re just taking a moment to appreciate the ride so far.
