Watch the full-width beam as I ride away into the trees and through the corner.
There’s a point on an evening ride when you start to notice how dark it’s getting in the woods. The trail is still there, but it gets harder to see what’s around it. Riding alone, I’m usually a little more aware of that.
What struck me on this ride was how comfortable I felt. I could see the trail ahead, but I could also see the trees and the edges of the trail in my peripheral vision. I had a good view of what was around me, and I could just get on with riding.
Seeing beyond the line
In daylight, I don’t spend much time thinking about where to look. My eyes move ahead through a corner, I pick my line, and I take in the edges of the trail as I go.
That’s what I want when I turn my light on, too.
The wide beam of the MB6 makes a big difference here. I can see the trail and the surrounding woods together, without feeling like I’m looking down a tunnel. It’s much easier to look through a corner and ride the way I normally would.
I still ride to the conditions, of course. But having that wider view helps me relax on the bike. I’m spending less time trying to work out what’s beyond the bright spot in front of me.
One less thing to manage
The other thing I appreciate is not having to fiddle with the light during the ride.
With ALC (Active Light Control) on, the MB6 manages its output for me. I don’t have to keep reaching for a button or thinking about which setting I should be using.
On a solo ride, I’m already keeping track of the trail, my route, and how much daylight is left. It’s nice to have one less thing to think about. I can leave the light to do its job and enjoy the ride.
Watch the width of the beam
In the video above, I ride toward the camera, then away into the trees until I turn the corner.
Watch the beam as I ride away. You can see how much of the trail and the woods on either side it lights up. That’s why I wanted to keep this video widescreen: it gives you a better look at the width of the beam.
From the bike, that extra visibility is what makes me feel more comfortable. Being out there alone as it gets dark feels quite different when I can see what’s around me.
More attention for the ride
For me, this is what makes the MB6 so enjoyable to ride with. I can see well enough to ride naturally, and ALC takes care of the adjustments.
I’m out there to ride my bike and have a good time. The less I have to think about my light, the better.
